BOSTON —Boston police said they have located the truck and driver wanted after a woman riding her bike was hit and killed in the Back Bay on Friday morning.
Police said they were both located out of state but didn't say in which state they were located.
The woman, who police said was in her late 30s, was hit at the intersection of Massachusetts Avenue and Beacon Street.
"There was a lot of people who wanted to help but they couldn't do anything," witness Hagop Kozelian said. "It was just a bad scene. You could feel the vibe. I just took a moment and I just prayed to God that she's at a better place right now"
She was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The driver of the truck, an 18-wheel flatbed, may not have realized he hit the woman.
"It is unclear whether the driver was aware he struck this bicyclist," said Boston Police Superintendent Bernard O'Rourke.
Police released a surveillance photo of the truck with a red sleeper cab and chrome grille earlier in the day in hopes that it would be located.
The intersection where the incident occurred was called the most dangerous for bicycle riders in a 2013 city of Boston study.
"It's difficult in a city like this with large traffic, busy streets, busy intersections," said O'Rourke.
At this point, no charges have been filed, and the incident remains under investigation.
